St Philip’s Christian College Dynamic Learning, located in Gosford, NSW, caters for students in years 3-12 with a diagnosis of anxiety, depression, PTSD or autism. Head of Campus, Salina Mayall, spoke to BFX about the school’s furniture choices for their new, state-of-the-art building. “Here at St Philip’s Christian College Dynamic Learning we embrace Maslow before Bloom. Maslow being the hierarchy of needs for our students, and Bloom being the educational element. We focus on meeting our children’s emotional and sensory needs because we know that if they are met, their educational outcomes can be met and addressed as well. Furnishing of the spaces is an integral part of meeting these needs.” Agile, height adjustable furniture was key in creating academic spaces that could support the student’s wellbeing. “Agile furniture is really important in supporting how we teach each day and creating flexible classroom spaces.” Classes regularly transform into collaborative settings or spaces that reflect cafés, universities, or workplaces. “All of our classrooms have whiteboard tables. The intention of using whiteboards was to support our children when they are doing their work.” Salina is pleased to see a range of furniture that considers children with additional needs. “There is a need and desire for inclusive furniture that is Occupational Therapist approved and it is amazing BFX are providing this to the education sector.”
