Melbourne Holocaust Museum

Project Description

The Melbourne Holocaust Museum in the city’s southeast builds on the legacy of Holocaust survivors, providing a space to educate on the events of the Holocaust, commemorate the victims and honour the survivors. The museum is pivotal in creating a culture ‘to combat antisemitism, racism and prejudice in the community’. The museum has undergone a major redevelopment of the existing building. The new design includes three museums. A permanent Holocaust Museum, a dedicated Children’s Museum and a gallery for temporary exhibitions. Enhanced learning areas, a Memorial Room, two auditoriums and a Resource Centre and Library are also part of the facility. BFX was tasked by the client to outfit their new spaces with flexible, modern furniture in darker tones that provide maximum functionality whilst not detracting from the natural timbers used throughout the build.
