Merewether High School Library

Merewether High School is a selective academic high school located in Newcastle, NSW. BFX delivered a comprehensive library furniture fit-out designed to create a sophisticated and calming environment that supports both teaching and student learning.

A refined aesthetic was achieved through the use of light laminate finishes, complemented by a cohesive blue fabric palette reflecting the school’s light and dark blue colours. Australiana Eucalypt was introduced as a feature fabric, adding depth and a subtle connection to the Australian landscape while maintaining a contemporary, understated feel.

The library was thoughtfully zoned to support a variety of learning modes. Marvel shelving formed the backbone of the space, complemented by Spinner book displays and integrated Concord display ends for referencing computers. Dedicated teaching areas were created to accommodate both full-class and smaller group learning, supported by a mix of collaborative tables, booths and soft seating. Casual reading zones were introduced using Jelly chairs and a central Showtime lounge setting as a feature element, while Plaza settings were used strategically to introduce height and define zones within the larger footprint.

The result is a cohesive and highly functional library environment that balances structure, flexibility and comfort.
